I have been around for many game launches in the MMORG world, and walked through many others.
Initial impressions for me.
Guild Wars meets LOTR meets Vanguard
Superb Starting section, beautiful island, design, questing, fun, enjoyable, diverse, well done indeed.
Once to main island...the omens are less auspicious..COLLECT COLLECT
Pros:
Combat system much more hands on
'Mature'
Cons:
No Mount until level 40 (exactly as LOTR)
COLLECT 10 spiders, 10 wolves, 10 lynx, 10 scorpions, 10 snakes, 10 lions anon
run back - run forth - run back - run forth - run back - run forth
Forget any city activity, siege, etc unless you join a BIG guild.
Camped spawns.
Kill stealers.
Sounds a bit negative when you look at it this way. But one has to be objective.
Vanguard was a nice game, you could get mounts at lvl 10 GREAT well done! logic at last,
even flying wyverns added a fun aspect early on.
Craft and Housing were hardcore.
LOTR some pets, quirks, pipe smoking, instrument playing, some reasonable quests UNTIL
they killed it with COLLECT missions and running back forth cos no mount until much later.
they have now introduced player housing available to all.
So we come to Conan.
Thus far the instanced dungeons are great, though since moving to mainland I have done nothing
but COLLECT and DELIVER
no housing
Pets? copies of GW for necromancer, copy of Warlock (wow) for Demonologist
no organic pets, no taming.
I scored Conan 9/10 for the starter island
so far on mainland a generous 5/10
I hope to have my eyes opened to more than what I have seen. |

Sadly, my experience is much the same...
That's when I can log in... or stay logged in... bugger keeps disconnecting, and it's always the same:
1- the game boots me out after five mins playing... 2- then I can't log into the log in server... 3-then it finally lets me in only to say I'm running the wrong version of the game after I select a character... 4- game exits, I log in again, takes 5 mins more to scan all the files, and after finding nothing wrong, proceeds to load my toon ok. 5- go to step 1.
So teething stability problems all round, it seems.
The starting island is fun, and it starts with a very novel obstruction; you begin with your way blocked by an enslaved woman chained across your pathway... now, I could just duck under her and go my merry way, but, oh no... gotta save her to get past... oh well... haha
And it just keeps getting better. Your quest to kill your slaver is quite satisfying, swinging your boat oar as you go, slave girl in tow. Like a true barbarian
The combat is fast and furious, and it's definitely engaging, but I've tried a few toons now, Barbarian, Guardian, Herald of Xotli, Dark Templar... and I can't help but feel that they're all too similar to each other. All you seem to get is an extra spell every few levels for your class, but the basic 'melee' part remains the same.
Overall I like the combat, but I wonder how long it takes before the novelty wears off?
But, so far so good... and then you enter the city... and it's all downhill.
So far the only 'decent' quests I've done seem to be all solo ones. In the daytime, all quests seem to be 'Collect 10 rat pelts' or 'Kill 30 acolytes'... and these are the ones you can multiplayer. But at night, when the true storyline unfolds, it seems to be all solo.
For the majority, it's mostly all your regular MMO fare.
So far I've seen no cities, nor have I done any crafting, PvP or horse riding... haven't stayed logged in long enough to do anything really.
So it's sorta what I feared. The question is: Is it really a great game that's had too much hype pumped at it, making it seem a bit of a letdown? Or is it truly a turkey?
Hopefully when they fix the bugs I might be able to play long enough to find out |

ive run the game on Desktop 7600GT Win XP
Laptop 8600GT Win XP
I was having problem with desktop so upgraded to latest NVIDIA drivers, and it seems worse. I would be running around in game but would actually be in "limbo" - like out of game, only way to clear this is to log out and start client again. When doing that usually get an error message about client.
Game runs without problem on the laptop, which ironically uses older NVIDIA drivers.
Still looking for a fix to the desktop issue.
Also running game on a desktop with HD2600 ATI, WIn Vista so far no problems. |

Desktop
ran beta beautifully
refuses to load new game
keeps on defaulting to beta install which has most definitely been uninstalled
then it just says fatal error...........................................................................
then after four days of reading editing reinstalling. deleting and otherwise driving myself insane
IT RAN
Laptop runs it when it feels like it,
then it just stops, and
lags like a man making a commitment
then forges on like a man in lust
Seems is no other reason
Searched the forums, when I can log into them

there may be trouble ahead,
but while theres moonlight and music and Blythe and roamings,
let's face the grindings and mince.
Will there ever be a developer who will use their own game model?
and not clone the stereotypical format. _________________ Someone wicked this way comes |

You know, it's starting to grow on me... Dunno what they've done, but I'm gettin booted less, and I've been able to test it some more.
I kinda like a lot of the proffs now (kinda an unoriginal 'feat' system though, ripped right out of WoW :/). Barbarian is pretty cool, it's like a beefy rogue lol Dark Templar makes quite a good survivalist., with it's strange blood rite way of healing yourself. And Necromancer isn't too shabby for the pets, gonna try demonology next.
Overall it's quite a well made game. Not original enough by half, but quite nice all the same.
But where's the /dance emote?? ... only game in the universe without one... /burningman gives a novel alternative, but... hold on, is that what you mean Reeper? They put one in finally? lol I can see some dev slapping his hand to his forehead saying 'i knew I forgot something...'
Probably the same dev in charge of nipple texture mapping, had his head somewhere else haha |
